My Mission

Wonderful books abound for students of all ages! Through Learning Unabridged I endeavor to help parents and teachers find whole-book sources for all levels about all eras. Utilizing chronological and topical lists, I make finding books simple, and my spotlight reviews highlight specific titles. I help you find both classics and books hot off the presses, covering history, literature, science, the arts, and more.

Every week, I add between ten and twenty-five books somewhere on the website. Each of those books goes on a post on Instagram, making that platform the best way to keep up with all of my latest finds (or old friends from the lists that I dust off and chat about).

Learning Unabridged is a very dynamic project!

I had no intention of letting this website go live until I had the vast majority of my huge stack of book lists transferred onto its pages. Then, I saw a post on social media encouraging everyone to think about what they could do to make COVID-19 easier on others. I knew that, as a mother of six with more than a decade and a half of homeschooling behind me, this was my contribution. COVID-schooling is a thing of the past for most families, but I have decided to keep the site live as I continue to add to the lists, begin writing blog posts once again, and reconfigure pages to make them easier for everyone to navigate as the lists get longer. I thank you all for your positive feedback and patience.

Whether you homeschool or not, happy browsing and reading!

The Book Lists Explained

Grammar, dialectic, and rhetoric are terms used in classical education. They break down roughly as follows with regard to the American public education system:

Grammar: Grades 1 through 4            Dialectic: Grades 5 through 8            Rhetoric: Grades 9 through 12

If your student's reading level is in the lower or upper two grades of a phase, I suggest checking lists adjacent to their primary list. This is especially true for dialectic and

rhetoric students, as U.S. publishers often level books as "Grades 7-9."

Why settle for textbook snippets or anthologized abridgements? Learning the whole-book way will help your students (or you!) experience a greater breadth of knowledge, expand critical thinking skills, and enhance enjoyment of the learning process.

Want to see if I reviewed a specific book on Learning Unabridged?

Join Learning Unabridged on social media for my "On this day in history..." book
suggestions. Almost every book I add to the lists is posted on Instagram.
It is supposed to interface with Facebook but does not always work,
so some books do not end up on the Facebook feed.

I hope to see you on Instagram!
